PJO inni Bosch is a new venture to promote the Art Centre and our learners’ talent in the Stellenbosch community. All Grade 11 learners were given the opportunity to participate in this exciting competition of which the prize money is sponsored by Proud Partners (http://www.proudpartners.co.za/the-consular-ball), an initiative founded by one of our distinguished Governing Body members, Isabel Verwey.
The brief of this competition was that learners should identify an interesting site in Stellenbosch, in the centre of town, where they could create a street artwork that interacts with the surroundings in an interesting way. They had to submit proposals together with their Term 2 projects. Ten semi-finalists were selected by a panel comprising of educators at the PJ Olivier Art Centre, members of the governing body, Isabel Verwey and Christelle Lamprecht and Andi Norton, who has kindly partnered with us under the auspices of the Stellenbosch Outdoor Sculpture Trust’s new initiative Hiervandaan (http://www.sost.co.za/).
The final group of five learners who will be able to execute their artworks on the site they chose, will be made known on the first day of Term 3, 18 July. There will also be a competition linked to identifying and photographing the artworks which will be run from the Art Centre’s Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/PJ-Olivier-ART-Centre-162979730422132/.
