GRADE 8 – 9: GENERAL ART

In grade 8 and 9 the learners may choose to do a course in General Art. The emphasis is on the practical component. The grade 8 and 9 years form a unity. The learners are introduced to most of the Design and Visual Art disciplines offered as subject choices from grade 10 to 12.

This exposure enables them to make an informed decision at the end of grade 9, when they have to make a subject choice for grade 10 to 12.

This subject, General Art, is separate from the compulsory learning area of Creative Arts that forms part of the Grade 8 and 9 National curriculum.
