GRADE 8 – 9: GENERAL ART

In grades 8 and 9 the learners may choose to do a course in General Art. The emphasis is on the practical component. The grades 8 and 9 years form a unit as projects are developed according to class groups’ skills and interests. The learners are introduced to some of the Design and Visual Arts disciplines offered as subject choices from grade 10 to 12.

This exposure enables them to make an informed decision at the end of grade 9, when they have to make a subject choice for grades 10 to 12.

This subject, General Art, is separate from the compulsory learning area of Creative Arts that forms part of the Grade 8 and 9 National curriculum.
